Lines and wrinkles are an inevitable part of the ageing process and can also be accelerated by exposure to the sun, excessive stress, diet, and weight loss. These signs of ageing can be ‘static’ – caused by the gradual loss of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, or ‘dynamic’ – created by repeated facial muscle movements, such as laughing and frowning.
Botulinum toxin (eg. Botox) is a well-known and reliable treatment that softens the stronger facial muscles that can cause wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid fillers are an effective means of selectively adding volume to the dermal layers under the skin and thereby reducing or eliminating lines or creases in the skin.

- Lasting results
Anti-wrinkle Injections
A very fine needle is used to precisely deliver small amounts of the purified protein botulinum toxin (eg. Botox, manufactured by Allergan). These injections relax specific muscles to stop the skin from creasing and are an ideal treatment for dynamic wrinkles, particularly in the upper part of the face. They can be used to treat the following:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines
- Vertical lip lines
- Crow’s feet
- Down-turned mouth corners.
Treatment takes around 20 minutes and effects will show in a few days. The number of injections will depend on the area being treated and, as these are precisely targeted, they produce natural looking results. There is also no need to take any time out to recover after the procedure.
A dentist trained in these procedures will have a good understanding of the facial musculature and be very practiced in using precise injection techniques. They are a very good choice of practitioner to deliver the injections with the correct planning and precision required.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers can enhance the skin by smoothing lines and plumping up areas of lost elasticity. The fillers are ultra-pure hyaluronic acid. This is a substance that is present in large volume naturally in the body. At HDS we do not use any synthetic materials that could cause adverse or allergic reactions. Fillers can be used to achieve a variety of rejuvenating results including:
- Contouring the cheeks and chin
- Filling deep lines, such as those that run from the nose to the mouth
- Correcting acne or chicken pox scars
- Restoring a youthful fullness and definition to lips
The practitioner carefully plans out the treatment areas and gel-like fillers are injected with an ultra-fine needle into the dermal layer just under the skin. There is no need for a recovery period and results are instant, lasting for several months. There is a risk of bruising at the site of the injection and you should plan the treatment session to allow for this. Should it occur it is usually mild and disguisable with foundation and resolves in a few days.
After Treatment
As with all non-surgical treatments, the effects will gradually wear off over time but you can maintain your smoother, plumper skin with top-up treatments. Regular use of anti-wrinkle injections can make results last longer, so top-up injections will become less frequent.
