Dental Implants

Dental implants offer a natural-looking and fully functional solution to the problem of tooth loss. They are effectively small metal inserts made from titanium that are surgically placed within the jawbone. The metal is well-tolerated by the body and bonds with the surrounding bone over a few months These posts act as substitute tooth roots and are positioned in the jawbone to provide a firm foundation for replacement teeth.

Dental implants can be used to support single crowns, fixed bridges or dentures. It is sometimes possible for temporary teeth to be fitted to implants on the same day. They are an excellent way to provide long-lasting replacement teeth in a way that gives great function, comfort and confidence.

What can I expect?

Initially, we assess how your teeth fit together, your oral health and the density of your jaw bone. A 3D scan is usually required before any treatment can commence. If we discover you don’t have enough bone to support implants, you may need additional grafting procedures before they can be successfully anchored in place.

We carefully position the implants using a minor surgical procedure. We use a local anaesthetic, and possibly sedation for this part of the treatment process. Over a few months, the implants will bond with the bone.

Once fully settled in, we add replacement teeth to these firmly positioned fixtures.

What else should I know?

Implants are a long-lasting solution to gaps in your smile but they do need to be looked after just as well as natural teeth. You need to brush your teeth regularly and clean the narrow spaces in-between. You will need regular hygiene appointments and implement a specific cleaning routine customised for you. You also need to see us for regular dental health examinations so we can keep a close eye on your implants and the surrounding teeth.
